Love is in the Air (and on the Stage) This Week
In the past, Valentine’s Day has meant time with my sweetie and perhaps dinner and a show. And while North Carolina is still under a safer at home order and many venues are still shuttered, several local theaters have scheduled some romantic treats to set the mood for staying in.
North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre – When flowers just might be not enough, serenade your special someone with song. Several local artists including Aya Wallace, Lauren Bamford, and Shane de Leon, have pre-recorded some classic love songs that you can order and have e-mailed to anyone any place along with a special message. Think of it as a singing telegram for a virtual age. Prices start at $5 and benefit North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre. The deadline to order is February 13th. Temple Theatre – Opening Thursday, February 11th, is Temple Theatre’s Can’t Help Falling in Love: A Valentine Cabaret. But for those unable to attend the in-person performances, which run through February 21st, the company is streaming a performance February 13th. Saturday, The program features performances from some local artists, as well as kids from Temple’s Teens on Stage program. For more information visit https://www.templeshows.com/.
Theatre Raleigh – Theatre Raleigh is going old-school with songstress Yolanda Rabun singing the music of Gladys Knight. The hybrid concert will be performed live for a small audience at Theatre Raleigh’s new studio in North Raleigh Saturday night and simultaneously live-streamed on YouTube. For more information visit https://theatreraleigh.com/special-events/.
Judson Theatre Company – Inspired by the 1939 film Love Affair and immortalized by Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr in the 1957 film An Affair to Remember, Judson Theatre Company presents an audio adaptation of this classic love story. This radio play will be broadcast Saturday and Sunday on 550 AM or Star 102.5 FM in the Sandhills area and online at www.star1025fm.com. Gift Certificates – When in doubt, gift certificates are a thoughtful gesture. North Carolina Theatre and the Durham Performing Arts Center each offer gift certificates which are redeemable towards upcoming events.
